If someone has osteonecrosis in the hand or wrist, do they have to worry about it coming back somewhere else?
Osteonecrosis of the wrist, or death of bone cells in the wrist, isn't a very common problem, but it does happen. In some situations, it's easy to identify why it happened. For example, it can happen after someone breaks their wrist and the blood supply to the bone is cut off. However, many times there is no rhyme or reason as to why someone develops it. The good news is that it doesn't seem to be related to anything else and there are no risks that have been found that mean that someone with osteonecrosis may develop it again somewhere else.
