If schwannomas are on the outside of the nerves, why do they cause pain and problems with movement?
A schwannoma is a tumor that stays on the outside of the nerve and doesn't invade. However, as the tumor grows, it can push on to the nerve, either pushing it to the side, or crowding it against a body part, like a bone. When this happens, this can cause damage and pain.
