Herniated discs, also called slipped or bulging discs, can happen to anyone, unfortunately. After your teen years, your back starts a slow degenerative process and the back of the discs can herniate easier in some people, particularly those who are active and use their backs a lot.
Risk of herniating discs can be lowered by exercising, staying fit, and making sure you move and lift properly, but that doesn’t mean that you won’t hurt your back. Sometimes it just takes the smallest wrong movement to cause the injury.
